Mid-Year Update | Edmonton Graphic Designer
Write By: Katie Dooley

Hi everyone! Can you believe 2020 is halfway over? Are you grateful or freaking out? While 2020 is going the way no one planned, I think it’s been a pretty great year so far.

I wanted to take this halfway point to re-introduce myself. My name is Katie Dooley and I am the owner and lead designer of this lovely little agency. Here’s a little bit about my background and how I came about starting Paper Lime Creative.

katie is a certified edmonton graphic designer

Edmonton Graphic Designer

I’ve always loved graphic design. My first really layout design I remember is from when I was 11 years old and made a trifold brochure for Social Studies. I photocopied books from the library, cut them out, lined them up and pasted them on paper and then photocopied the whole thing again to make one nice, crisp copy. Pretty impressive I think. I know we didn’t have a printer at the time and while word processors existed they were still super limited. I don’t think Google Images was a thing yet either…

Anyway, that was basically how I spent my time in school. I loved those projects where we got to take information, and make it pretty. I was never much of a fine artist. I didn’t take art classes until university, and even now I only casually dabble in painting and drawing. But man I love visual communication design. I want you to read information because it looks sexy and important. After I graduated high school I went straight to MacEwan University in Edmonton and got my graphic design diploma.

I worked a handful of graphic design jobs after that but wanted support clients the way I wanted to support them, and eventually branched out on my own.

We’re proud of our collaborative model that keeps clients in the loop and as decision makers on their projects. We’re not a set of hands that takes orders, there’s a lot of thought and research that goes into our branding projects, but we’ll never bully you into a design you don’t like either!

Paige, definitely begging.

Certified Design Professional

Just last month, I received my CDP (Certified Design Professional) Certification through the Design Professionals of Canada. This designation requires 7 years of working in the industry, a portfolio, client references and more. It shows my clients that I meet a minimum quality for design work and how I run my business. It’s important to me that we are continually educating the public and elevating the design community to reach a higher standard of both customer service and quality of work.

In my free time I like to hang out with my husband, Bryant, and our dog, Paige. We love to entertain when we’re not social distancing. Board games and dinners are the best nights. We also enjoy rock climbing (again when gyms are open and we’re allowed to be closer than 2 metres!)

I still have some goals to reach in the next 6 months. Ask me about our Brand Mastermind! I would love to help more businesses with this focused 2 and a half hour workshop that empowers business owners and their staff to own and use their branding effectively.  I also want to do more speaking gigs. I was part of a webinar last week and looking forward to doing at lest 3 more this year!
