YogaMA is a fusion of fitness, with it being yoga and martial arts. The brainchild of Sandy Weatherall, a yoga teacher and black belt martial artist, YogaMA fills a unique fitness need for kids 8-14. Sandy saw a need to combat ‘monkey brain’ and to give kids an alternative to screen time.
The Client
YogaMA was founded when we began seeking a healthier, more balanced life for the families in our community, including our own. We realized children saw more of their screens than their family members and lacked playtime and energizing activities. It was then that we knew we needed to make a bold change.
The Design
The YogaMA logo represents the fluid fusion of two elements: yoga and martial arts. This logo is a balance of contradictions: calming yet vibrant.
The blue connects with an energetic yellow to create a dark olive green meant to centre the viewer and remind them of nature and the environment.
When targeting a younger demographic like YogaMA, there’s always a balance between the end user (the child) and the person purchasing the services (the parent). The YogaMA font is playful and down-to-earth without being excessively childish. It’s also easy to read and because of the hand-drawn influence helps connect the customer to the founder, Sandy Weatherall.

This unique blend of ancient movement arts and philosophies create a space of personal self-discipline that allows us to seek peace and power in our daily lives. Our practice is a safe and inclusive space. Here, children can explore self-expression and come to feel the wisdom of their inner voices. By helping children and teens learn how to self-regulate inside and outside their practices, we create caring, compassionate human beings with strong connections to themselves and others.
